The Master of Science in Education: Educational Technology degree will open doors to teachers, trainers, and informal educators who are wanting to effectively incorporate technology into their current profession. This program qualifies K-12 teachers for continued licensure. Students may choose to complete the Instructional Design Certificate embedded in this program.

To start, you need:

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Test scores for K-12 teachers only

Finishing will take:

  • 5 terms for full-time students
    • Students have five years to complete their degree
  • 45 credits
  • Comprehensive exams, Professional Portfolio, Thesis or Field Study

What you will learn:

Use technology to transform teaching and learning. Become familiar with emerging technologies and their educational application. Although all educational technology degree classes can be done online, our faculty emphasizes the importance of community and interaction among all of their students.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Recognize, evaluate, and apply technological tools (software and hardware) to support teaching and learning in diverse environments.
  2. Develop critical thinking tools to evaluate information and media accuracy, relevance, and propriety.
  3. Build capacity to adapt to and work with, diverse media types across multiple platforms to create and support authentic learning relevant to the learners and their learning contexts.

Graduate Student Assistant Positions are a form of student employment, earning a compensation package including both salary and tuition remission for the performance of research or teaching services to the University as part of a student’s academic and professional training and development. If you are interested in applying for a Graduate Assistant Position, please apply for this position no later than February 1st for priority processing. Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.

Application materials required for WOU Graduate admission:

  • Transcripts
    • You can upload an unofficial copy of your transcript to complete your application for admission. Save as a PDF with your first and last name in time from all previous colleges. We will require an official transcript from the Colleges or Universities you have attended for formal admission.
    • Transcripts are used as Evidence of completion of a four-year baccalaureate degree (or international equivalent) from a regionally accredited institution as defined by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars, with a cumulative B average (equivalent 3.00 on a U.S. 4.00 grading scale) on the most recent baccalaureate degree. Applicants who hold a master’s degree will have the 3.0 GPA requirement waived. Students with less than 3.0 can also provide passing MAT/GRE scores to be fully admitted.

  • Personal Statement
    • Please provide a brief statement explaining your interest in a graduate degree in education, the content specialty area you are interested in pursuing, and how it will help you meet your current and/or future professional goals.

Please refer to the Application Checklist in your Graduate Application Portal to confirm the status of your submitted materials. The Graduate Application Portal will also provide additional details about the checklist items for further clarification.       MSEd: Educational Technology curriculum overview:

      The Master of Science in Education: Educational Technology degree has its own unique core coursework, including a nine-hour professional core, and a nine-hour educational technology core.

      Your plan of study:

      Once admitted to the Master of Science in Education: Educational Technology program, you will work with an advisor to plan the courses you will take and how you will complete the academic requirements of the program. By filing this Program Plan (PDF form), you have a road map for completing your degree and clarity on what to expect. You can also print the course listing if desired.

      Software purchases:

      Students in the MSEd: Educational Technology program will likely need to have access to the Microsoft Office suite (or similar) and may find it useful to purchase additional software used in various courses within the program. Before purchasing any software, we recommend talking with your advisor and/or course instructor to determine if the purchase would be beneficial.
