Reduced Enrollment Policy for International Graduate Students:

Effective 2009:

Graduate students that have completed their formal coursework and have either comprehensive exams or a thesis left to complete are actually eligible to be at 0 credits. Here is the language used by immigration regarding graduate student registration:

Immigration regulations state that “Successful completion of the full course of study must lead to the attainment of a specific educational or professional objective.” 214.2(f)(6)(i)(A)  International graduate students who have completed their formal coursework and are preparing for comprehensive examinations or are engaged in thesis or dissertation research may be considered as “pursuing a full course of study” based on the recommendation of their academic advisor.

The student just needs to complete the Reduced Course Load form and have their academic advisor sign it, then the student would return it to the international office for processing.
